Hi I am back with another question and yes I am sorry if I am asking so many stupid questions, but this is the first time dealing with a video card I actually care about.

When I am in a skype call, my gpu can rise to as high as 56-57c and then it will creep back down and then back up and keep doing this for a while, its rare, but sometimes it gets to 57 for a few seconds and then goes back down.

This happens both when I am sharing screen while playing a game called magic the gathering online, and it happens when I am just in a call. At the same time, I am watching a twitch stream through VLC player.

Can someone please shed some light on this. My cpu package temp never goes above 52 and even then it only does it for a blink of an eye and then does its usual fluctuating behavior. My gpu also idle's at 35, even though my case is very very cool and the temp goes up and down while doing anything, I was told this is normal I hope.

i7 4790 3.6ghz
msi gtx 970
16gb ram
550w PSU
3 case fans blowing and good air flow, no dirt.

Also I have another question. I use HWmonitor and for my gpu, it shows Powers, Clocks, and utilites being GPU, Frame Buffer, Video Engine, Bus Interface and Memory. I am sure memory is straight forward, if its using 10%, that means it has 90% of its memory left to use. But I am not exactly sure what the other 4 mean... I understand the Clocks are the MHZ, But is power just another way of saying Watts?

Atm im on a skype call and I am watching a stream through live streamer and I am using a dingy little tv as a second monitor. My gpu temp right now as I just checked it is 49c??? and for few secons my memory clock was 3200MHz, why? I just don't get it... Is this normal?

I am also on windows 7 if that matters, I am going to upgrade to windows 10 later today

Please just help me understand. Thank you.

After I got off the call, I brought up skype to exit out of it and my temps rose for a few seconds and then they stayed at 42 while I played hearthstone. I then brought up youtube and watched a quick video and my temps rose to 53 and are now slowly going back down.

I'm glad everyone says not to worry. I have heard from some that this fluctuation is not normal and I am just really confused as to why its behaving like this and to what is considered "normal behavior". I figured it would be a bit more stable and not wouldn't fluctuate as much. My Clocks went to 1114 and 3506 for a minute and then once I closed youtube and hearhtstone, they quickly went back down to what they usually are at idle.

I should also add that in skype when I was screen sharing, my cursor was blinking a little and my computer was lagging slightly, very slightly. But at some points my audio cut out for a few seconds, though that may be because my 2.0 headset is plugged into my 3.0 port and so that might effect it. Even with an i7 and gtx970, is skype really that bad? You'd think they would work on that even a little haha.

Why does it behave like this? I'd just like to know for future knowledge so I don't have to worry again in the future. Also if you say they are fine, I am glad. I have 3 fans in my case and the case is really cold, Though what does piss tick me off is rendering an 8 minute video, my package for my cpu still hit 60 for a few seconds, but I guess you can never have enough cooling/cpu's just fluctuate heat constantly so I can't control that right? I guess even with how cold my case is and how good the air is, the GPU will still heat up anyway... I need to put a fan directly near it to really get a cool down I am guessing?

I'm honestly scared to game because j see people hitting less then 70c for load temps and I think mine go above 70c... Many say 75 is fine, others say it will burn the card, i don't know what to believe.

For a GTX 970 try to keep temps under 90C. I prefer mine under 80 personally, but it will not burn the card. You may even have a card where the fans disable when under 60C. Actually the MSI one does work that way, so it's probably it.
