Skyrim lagging over time(what's causing this?)

I've got a pretty decent pc, Win 7 ultimate
Processor Amd A8 5500
8 GB Ram
64bit
updated all my drivers
GPU AMD Radeon HD 7800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605

I've enable quite a few mods one at a time(carefully installed with NMM)
The game runs fine but after about 30 minutes it will lag when I look at certain things or in one direction. Restarting solves it but it's pretty annoying.

I have project ENB and had to lower it to the performance setting but it still does the same after about 30 minutes and I've followed the STEP ini tweak guide along with the CCC control setup guide.

Could it just be script buildup?

I installed memory blocks log and I thought it would help:/

Solution
memory leak. its a known issue.....
http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2729

that also referes to boris's original enb that allows memory management, along with performance saving injected smaa, af.... also adding dx10 "like" effects and ambient occlusion.

but if your modding you should be be cleaning, bashing, and tagging all your mods before you start a new fresh beginning of the game save or your very likely to have problems.
Here's a sticky to all the basic changes I know.

Other than that there was a known issue back when I was playing skyrim on my ATI GPU. It ended up causing me to swap it out for an Nvidia GPU. If you were indoors and looked closely at a wall and had shadows turned on, the framerate would drop from about 80 to about 10, and the game only got worse over an hour. I tried the game recently with ENB installed but ran into issues because of it, and ended up removing it. Have you tried it without ENB?

Yea I have had the same Skyrim game going for a long time and it started lagging badly. I have lots of mods but I found an ENB post processing cleaner from Skyrim Nexus and it found lots of FX related stuff which it removed. After that, Skyrim went back to being very fast and smooth just like I remember it being. The mods were fine but the ENB and assorted FX were messing with the GPU.

It sounds to me like you're capping the 2gb of vRAM on your 7870,it CAN happen extremely easy with "Lots of mods".

You run out of VRAM so you start thrashing with RAM(which windows7/8 likes to dedicate to other things to begin with, compounding the problem) and with Virtual RAM(HDD space).
Even the fastest DDR3 RAM is a good bit slower than the GDDR5 vRAM your card uses.

EDIT: Solution, get rid of some of the mods. Namely if you use 4k textures,2k is really nice looking instead 😉

you wouldn't happen to know the name of that would you?

so tes5edit for cleaning, wrye bash for bashing.. what's tagging?

use BOSS... it will tag mods that are conflicting and need cleaning, tes5edit for cleaning, and wrye bash for bashing. you got it. getting mods in their right order is good.

http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.8
s.t.e.p. has a bunch of info on how to mod correctly. the first link i gave you about the memory leak is optional. i would start with cleaning and modding correctly and using the enb from boris to boost your performance....

http://enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.html

you will have to learn how to mod the ini file to turn on certain settings of the enb.... i personally just use it in stock form with memory management on and add the water caustics, force smaa, force its anisotropic filter, and force ambient occlusion as it uses much more performance friendly versions than any other known like forced drivers in amd catalyst/nvidia control panel with almost no visual quality difference.

Ok I've been doing all of that but I was using Project ENB in addition. I thought I read in STEP somewhere that changing even ini stuff mid save is risky so I need to make a new start?
I will probably get around to it this next weekend lol

well changing the ugrids to load will almost certainly destroy the game eventually, it happened to me so ive since reverted back to the stock 5 to load. i do wish there was/will be a fix for this as the game does look much better with a setting of even 7, let alone 9 or higher. other than that, there are plenty of settings that have to do with draw distances, number of grass too load, and certain settings that need to be changed/added to make skyrim floral overhaul to work that will not hurt the general stability of the game, except vram though.

i and many still use the original nvidia list that pertains to many of the simple ini mods and i use a good most of them, except the ugrids to load.
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweak-guide

one thing about the enb i linked, you should know to set the skyrim launcher settings for aa and af to "off" so as not to conflict with the forced aa/af settings in the enb. other settings like draw distances you can max out and then further extend by modding the ini files.

This is the one I used ENB FXAA SweetFX Manager and Remover. And btw I have even less VRAM memory 1.5GB GTX590 and I was having the lagging problem. It was all related to ENB and FXAA settings. I made a backup and cleaned everything out. It was like night and day.

Thank you guys for your responses I've been reading them ALL.
I'll check out the manager and remover.

Maybe it will simply help to load my list on here.. I don't use flora overhaul. There was this one thing Gopher demonstrated called "Memory Blocks log" that makes ANY Ugrid more stable.. but mods won't work so well with higher than 5 so i've heard so far..

I sure don't like that Minty's lightning mod... (it often lightning strikes when the weather is sunny..)

the apu's that will fit in your socket are not going to be much faster than what you have. you would really need a whole new motherboard and cpu, either amd fx or an intel i5 if you want a meaningful increase in performance. that said, yes a new much faster cpu paired with your hd7870 would offer a huge performance jump.

Thanks man! In about a month I should be good to order these. I've never built my own PC before just upgraded a stock one. Do you know a good link to instructions or a video?
