Skyrim restart after launcher? Over and over

Ok so when i try to start skyrim, steam starts it up and whatnot then the launcher pops up, i click play, say yes to give windows permission to run it.... and then steam restarts the launcher and im back to options (click play, options, data files ,etc.). I've tried lowering sound settings, shadows, restarted my computer, nothing is working. I've logged over 50 hours in this game with no problems and now all of a sudden this is happening. The only thing that i have changed is i ran CHKDSK to fix an error i was getting with windows explorer, could that be my problem?
Thanks in advance.

stuuffy, I have similar trouble.
When I click 'Play' on the skyrim launcher, a window pops up for a brief moment then dissapears, leaving me with the skyrim launcher. This is essentially making the game impossible to play because no matter how many times i press play, it will not begin.

Hey I just started having the same problem today too. I tried everything but nothing worked. I eventually found that I have a Skyrim folder and a Skyrim (2) folder. Thinking this was odd, I deleted the Skyrim (2) folder. Everything works fine now from what I can tell. This was a complete guess solution and entirely luck that it worked. I have no idea why or how it did. I retained all my saves. The only thing that changed is that it reset my video settings and mouse sensitivity. I found the folder by doing an advanced search on my comp.

I'm having the exact same problem ! I press play but it just relaunches the Skyrim launcher, press play = relaunch. What the hell ! Why do I have to wait for someone else (Steam) to play my own damn game that I payed for !?

Ok guys, I found a fix.
Though this might put your gfx settings back to default.

If you have this problem, to fix this you have 2 options.

1. Run Directly from Game File

Navigate to your Steam installation (By default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam)
Then goto the SteamApps\common\skyrim directory
From here just run TESV.exe directly.
If it's missing, goto option 2.

2. The game file TESV.exe or any other file is missing.

In Steam, right click Skyrim
Select Properties
Goto Local Files tab
Click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"
It should download all broken/missing files.
This didn't seem to fix it for me first time. So if it still doesn't work, try doing this same fix it just one more time.

The above worked like a champ. My problem was I got sidetracked -- the part about opening Steam I stupidly took to mean the directory on my computer and I poked around. I finally figured out it was to open Steam itself, get to the Library there and do the right clicking mojo and the selection of Validate Steam Files. It does a very small download of some kind.

I then selected Play and, boom, there it was, working.

Back to Skyrim!

I found this out, not sure why, it stops working but Navigate your .exe for Skyrim generally located in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim for 64bit systems
and/or
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim for 32bit systems

Look for TESV.exe
Right click on it click Properties and go to the Compatibility tab at the bottom it will say Privilege Level and under that a check box, make sure this is unchecked.
It worked fine for me
very interesting problem hope this helped guys and Happy Gaming

I've come to these boards for years for advice, finally joined because I figured I should say thanks for all the help. This fixed the issue the first try.

Installed Skyrim a week ago and have played find until tonight. This is what I get:

steampic1.png

It just hangs there indefinitely. I've looked at the TESV.exe and the admin permission is unchecked. I don't have a second Skyrim folder like the poster above. I ran thejavascript; data integrity verification and it was fine. I went with steam to avoid invasive security rootkit crap, and now I still have a pain just to launch the game! If anyone has other things for me to try let me know. And if Steam has an issue they need to come out with it now. Because allowing malware security back on my pc isn't gonna happem . I just blow off gaming altogether.

I have the same problem and found that my antivirus NOD32 is blocking the TESV.exe because it finds a crypt.win32 trojan file in it ... Does that ring a bell to anyone ?

i probably should have replied to this thread before but if you guys are still having problems, all i did to fix it was reinstall. Hasn't messed up at all since then.

Also if any of you guys are experiencing the crash to desktop with no errors, the skyrim 4gb mod worked for me, no more crashing now

This solution works for almost every game that has errors after a Steam update.
