right now im using

amd phenom x3 720 OC at 3.2ghz
4gb ozc reaper ram ddr2 1066 (pc2 8500)
nvidia gts250 1gb ddr3
7200 rpm 750gb hdd

i was wondering if i could max out skyrim using this rig? if not i will be buying a second GPU for SLI later this week, will that make max possible? thanks guys!!!

I'd advise waiting until the game is released to find out.

If you are playing at 1080p, I highly doubt you'll be able to, as you don't meet the recommended spec's, which are usually not high enough for max either.

If you have a small enough resolution, you might be able to.

We're not going to know till the game comes out. But to max it out you will need to upgrade your graphics. Just my opinion, but i wouldn't spend the money on a second 250. You can get an AMD 6670 for about the same price and will get a performance boost. Or spend a bit more and get an AMD 6750 or a GeForce GTS 450. I just don't see the point in going SLI with a mid or low range card. Especially when it is about 3 years old. Again, just my opinion.

And from Viewing prices, Tigerdirect.com has a GeForce GTX 550 Ti on sale for $110 USD. So if you look around you can find some good cards out for the same price or just a bit more.

if my intent was to run Skyrim on max setting what is the cheapest card i could buy to do this with no other upgarade? thank you!

Are you kidding? the 6670 would be slower than his gts 250, the gts450 and 5750/6750 are on par with it. ( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gts-450-gf106-radeon-hd-5750,2734-8.html )You would need to step up to a gtx460 or 6850 for a noticeable upgrade from a gts250. I think adding a secong gts250 would be a good idea if thats all the money he has, just make sure you have a good quality 650w psu and sli capable motherboard.

What is it with all these freggin monster cards. For high settings the recommended is a 260. I think an upgrade to the 550ti would be fine. If you don't prefer Nvidia go with the 6770. I'm sure you'll be fine......
