I fitted an excelstor j360 as a slave and did the jumpers - now each time I
reboot / boot up - new hardware found bubble and drive not recognised until I
refresh the hard drives via contrl panel system. then all ok until the next
time. Also infra red device has been installed by windows nothing I
installed! But cannot uninstall it. XP pro has been so bad lately I have
repaired twice and think a format reinstall may(?) cure things!

Is this on a laptop? First, I would suggest doing a repair install for
Windows. I'm not sure what you mean by you have repaired it, but you
need to boot off your Windows XP CD, choose INSTALL, then press R to
repair. Then reload all of your drivers (especially the
motherboard/chipset drivers).
