Sleep/Suspend Results in, no Resume

Hello,

I am having issues with the windows sleep/suspend option. When i put the computer (desktop) into sleep/suspend state (HDD light is fully emitting), it powers down as it should saving power. But when i turn the PC back on using the power button, the computer fails to resume, at this point i can hear the HDD turning on but no HDD busy light (as it should). So basically it is appears to be frozen, nothing happens on screen.

Ran powercfg -energy in command prompt, got these results:

Note the 4 USB devices detected are only the USB keyboard and mouse i have only plugged in (back of PC).
I have unplugged all the devices in the USB ports, and used PS/2 keyboard and mouse, still doesn't want to wake (ACPI state S3), this time no USB errors in the report only the ACPI_PSD which i am not sure about (installed latest firmware in BIOS)
Cleared the RTC RAM, and changed the 3 pin USB wake up jumpers (+5V and +5VSB) both tried.

I have been using ACPI S1 (POS) only, which is a bit more reliable, most of the times it resumes back to the desktop so far.
Might be a HDD problem recovering from sleep mode. I am not sure.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

According to http://www.PCIDatabase.com the device 8086.27c8 is the USB Controller rather than the device themselves. Click on Update Driver for that in Device Manager to see if there's a more recent one that works in Suspend mode.

Updating the Universal Serial Bus Controllers says that i have the driver software up to date, for all plugs, on windows 7 32-bit.

Upgraded to the latest chipset package from Intel (G31) version V9.1.1.1025. before i was using V9.1.1.1014 from the ASUS support & download section. Still fails to resume/wake with the newer version of chipset drivers, on the S3 state.

The problem is occurring on the P5KPL-CM mainboard

I have put the PC to sleep on Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit & Ubuntu, with the same results. 🙁


I am beginning to think it could be the HDD, I have ran Estool from the Samsung website http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/ES_Tool.html
Had to use this tool to diagnose this problem with the HDD and found a few bad sectors, did a 0 pass wipe of the partition that had known problems. Fixed these issues no bad sectors but also reported some type of RAM error in one of the tests:
HDD = Samsung HD642JJ ATA

RAM Verify Test

Service Code => AJ41 RAM error

Is this related to the HDD?

I don't know about your USB problems, but one thing I know is that, the problem you're having with your HD, the following:

Is definitely an HDD error. I have a Samsung HD 500gb (HD502HI) and I ran the Estool on it, and it gives me the same problem. I started noticing some weird clicks coming from the disk once in a while, after that it was some directories I could not delete, then it was a couple freezes while in windows, and my last one was the disk not being detected at reboot. After a couple tries it detected and I immediatly ran the estool, which gave me the same AJ41 error result. I have the disk for less than a year.

After searching the web for this problem, I found your posts and another person post with pics. It's not in english, but I believe you can translate with google translator, here's the link http://forum.clubedohardware.com.br/ram-error-disco/827512?s=46e7b4ba1f3340c382aec5570b902729&s=875bb194b7379e6d0a7cc14ba32d9012& (copy paste the whole link, including the last ";"). Basicly he says that he bought a HD103SI(F2) and ran the estool as he always does, and immediatly gave him the AJ41 error. So he returned to store to exchange for another one, they exchanged for a HD103SI, and again he ran the estool, and again it came the same result -> AJ41 RAM error. Then he states he's afraid to exchange for another one cause the problem could be in that batch of hdds, so he would exchange for another one with problems.

After watching the images he posted, I noticed something peculiar, dispite our disks are of diferent sizes, the "F/W REVIRSION" (as in his pic) or "ROM REV." (as it was in mine) are precisely the same, which is "1 AG01118".

So, my conclusion so far is that the problem is on the disks made at the time of the Rev. being 1AG01118.
But my quick conclusion came only from two examples, mine and the other poster.
Could you please tell me the Rev. on yours so we can compare?
You just need to run the Estool and check Disk Information, it's there.

Sorry for late reply,

I have fixed the sleep error. I just downgraded the BIOS ROM to a lower version (0602) once the BIOS was flashed i tried again to see if it resolved the problem which it hadn't. Then i decided to put the BIOS version 0608 back on since there wasn't much point having a lower version there.
Rebooted and clicked the sleep button, waited, then HDD light came on resumed! YAY. Seems strange that it was the BIOS firmware or something needed complete removing for this to work.

*Edit*
Another reason for why the PC had a resume problem was the Boot Device Priority, tinkered around the orders of it till one that functioned
Boot order
1. HDD
2. Removable Device <-- i think this is the mouse, doesn't detect this in the USB section in the BIOS
3. CD-Drive


hmmm, I haven't heard any strange noises on this HDD (underneath the desk), performance wise i think it is fine, still something must be not right.
The error/code image in the link are the exact same as what i got, ran the estool a few times and revived the error "busy not clear", did it again after the sleep problem and it displayed "DRQ timeout". :S

The HDD firmware revision is 1AA01112

I have had the HDD for about 1.5 years

First of all, Congratz on being able to solve your main problem!! 😀

And if in the future I know someone with the same problem, I'll just tell them, "try downgrading your bios, and then updgrade it again!", that's how humans surpass the machine...by tricking it, eheheh

That boot order is quite intriguing also. But I think the newer boards already have that option even if you don't have anything plugged in, just like a floppy drive. The option of a floppy drive is there even if I don't have one.
The option of Removable Device is quite good actually, incase you wanna boot from a usb pen.
Believe me, so many times I wished some old computers had that option! It would be much more simpler in some situations, like an old laptop without floppy drive

About the hdd, since your firmware is diferent, I can not say that it's comon to the 1AG01118 revision.
I just sent mine to RMA, right now I'm awaiting a new one.
