Sleeve and Ball bearing fan??

I think the ball-bearing lasts longer. Noise level roughly the same, but i'm not sure.

Ball bearing fans often last longer, but that's not always the case: Panaflow uses a special sleeve material (I think it's oil-impregnated) which last for many, many years. I have Panaflow fans here that operated for over 8 years continuously. Also, Panaflow fans are very quiet.

I've had several "ball bearing" fans that weren't. They were labled ball bearing, they were priced as ball bearing, and after a few months they got loose, so I took them apart and found a sleeve bearing.

So you are saying that the sleeve and the ball bearing fans have the same cooling effiency?

So the only difference is that the ball bearing last longer?

no difference in cooling efficiency, sometimes they last longer, sometimes they spin faster, mostly they just make more noise. When they spin faster they cool better, but if you're buying based on speed, certainly a 2400RPM ball fan doesn't spin faster than a 2400RPM sleeve fan. So if you're buying based on cooling efficiency, just go by CFM.

Low quality sleeve fans don't last nearly as long as good ones like Panaflow, so if you're buying low quality fans, you might be better off with a low quality bearing fan...

The sleeve fans are cheaper, usually of lower quality, and make LESS noise in the short term (but of course make lots of noises as they wear out). But top quality sleeve fans such as Panaflow don't follow that generalization.

yup... that be that in a nutshell...
eg Coolermaster sleeve vs bearing (last time I looked), half again for runlife for the bearing model

The only fan I've ever had wear out was a 40mm ball-bearing Lysis fan cooling an Athlon 600mhz heatsink. It started to rattle and squeal like a Banshee! These days I buy a 10 fan case of Top-Motor 80mm fans for $20.00. They are sleeve bearing and you cannot hear them run!
