[SOLVED] Sleeving and fans

Hi.. I recently encountered a noise coming from my system that I traced back to a fan that came with the case. Seizing the opportunity, I decided to upgrade the case. This is what I started with.

1 Cooler Master Q500L small form factor case and a 3 pack of Apevia120mm fans later, I ripped out the MOBO etc. went to rebuild everything with a little more care than before. Sort of wound up like this...

I finally was able to put it all back together. Lo and behold, it booted and worked.. not 10 minutes into my “new” computer experience and feeling more than a little satisfied with myself, the fan noise was back...

Traced that down to the fan in the PSU.. who would have thought. Took this moment to consider a few more upgrades. 1 cooler master 212 hyper and another 3 pack of fans and 1 EVGA 850w gold power supply later, I went to work... again. The 212 requires a mounting bracket on the bottom of the MOBO so everything had to come out again. The new upgraded PSU required all the winning be redone so I started from scratch again.

Now for my actual question... I am considering custom length and sleeving my cables. Power is pretty clear but the fans are giving me pause. The MOBO (Z77 Extreme4 Pro) has enough fan headers to hook up all the fans along with 2 separate CPU headers. I would like to sleeve the fan wires, however 2 of the fan Headers are in the middle of the MOBO. I want to eliminate the use of the 2 headers in the undesirable locations and I am thinking I can run individual cables to a hub so I don’t loose fan control. If I simply run them to power, they will just run at 100%. After researching and reading some of the horror stories of blown MOBO’s has given me pause however and it is obvious I need some additional feedback as well as a better understanding of the available options. Any thoughts?

This are your best options if you want a quality job done, to exacting standards, for the cabling. Yes, there are cheaper options, but they are NOWHERE near the quality or workmanship as these are.




As for the fan controller, this is the best option right now on the market IMO, and offers variable rate control off a single motherboard 4 pin PWM header for all three and four pin, DC or PWM fans.

Thank you for the info. I have been perusing main frame customs and looking at options to satisfy my ocd. The direction I will Most likely take is sticking to the fan headers along the outer edges on the MOBO and then the 2 headers in the middle will get re-routed to the hub. The one you linked to looks exactly like what I was looking for. I will post a pic once I am done lol.

So far feedback on that unit has been very good. I haven't bought one myself, but I am going to, because I refuse to continue using any NZXT product that requires the use of the CAM software, due to their data and personal information collection policies. CAM is calling home at an unheard of rate even when it's in guest mode. If you block CAM using firewall rules, half of it's features stop working. My Hue+ I'm still using because there is third party lighting software that can be used with it that mostly allows it to work normally. That too is likely to be replaced with something newer before long so I don't have to use a crippled lighting system.

The Phanteks product seems to be exactly what all fan hubs should, and probably will, be capable of going forward.
