SLi for NOTEBOOKS.........YES PLEASE ! ! ! !

Hi all,

This propably old news to you guys.

Very old news, MSI broke the news of the first cards, and then the first working models long ago.

Calling these rigs LaptTops or NoteBooks is Ridiculous. These things are desktop replacement portables, and no less.

SLi rigs run hot, chew battery life and weigh a ton.

Not attractive to any true mobile users, but nice if you just want a slim desktop form factor in the same was an SFF would be.

F*CK SLI.

What a waste of money and business scam to suck up more money. Each new generation card runs faster than the previous even in SLI mode. The electricity, set-up, heat, noise and all that crap isn't wirth it for SLI. Not to mention the money.

Don't tell me to stop progress just because I can't afford it and that no one is forcing me to buy. I AGREE with you - progress is good. I'm JUST saying for myself I say F*CK SLI.

WTF? SLI for notebooks? Are you seriously stupid?

Dammit! There's quite some idiotic folks around here...

Good news my ape buddy, you wouldnt need to buy your own personal
space heater for business travel....that being said.

How on earth does the battery survive? You must get what? half hour at max? I'm all for high end mobile, but the point of a mobile machine is too
be able to not use an outside power source for a certain amount of time.
Your exactly right, this is for people who are looking to replace their Desktops with laptops. But at what cost? Mobile machines cost more, and underpreform when compared to a desktop solution.

SLI in a laptop is what I have come to call an Oxy-Retard

And that's ther thing, my P4HT equiped DuLL with the FX5200 had a 98WHr battery and barely lasted 90mins watching a movie and just over 40 mins gaming. The Gateway with the PentiumM and the X700 will play moviewfor about 150+mins and game in the same games (primarily Morrowind, NHL 2K4 and EvilDead) for almost 90mins all on a 74Whr battery (which I jhust happened to luck into 2 of [thank you silly FutureShop employees  ]). I've seen 120+ WHr batteries ship with the old XPS systems that used the P4s, but even they slimmed down to that same range (96Whr IIRC) now. Of course they goota be huge nowadays.

I might get a transportable desktop replacement, but I'd keep my 'Laptop' for truely mobile stuff, and really I'd jsut prefer and efficient and powerful X1900 or GF7900 or better still X1700 for myself thank you.

To a limited extent it might make sense: run on a single card on battery power and both cards on external power, so you get better performance when you can plug into a power socket.

Still seems pretty silly to me though.
