Hi Community

Im new to this site so my apologies if im in the wrong topic. Currently ive upgraded to a gtx 760 msi hawk with a two year old 8120 Amd cpu. For near future upgrades in online gaming (or any gaming really) should i save for another 760 or should i upgrade my cpu to a 8350 or 9370? I understand overall Intel offers better chips for gaming but ive brought a decent motherboard and would rather wait for that to be obsolete before looking into Intel.

Cheers in advance guys!

If you are really only looking to use the PC as a gaming rig then I'd think about swapping that 8120 out for a higher frequency fewer cores CPU like the FX 6300 (or a 6350 if like me you can't be assed to OC). It will last longer as an upgrade than buying another 760 for SLI and it's a lot cheaper and less fiddly.

Thanks for your reply Aztec. Will this be a noticeable difference? Ive researched benchmarks on both and there seems to be minimal differences on paper.

Sorry for the delay. I've had another look at the turbo settings of your current 8120 and the difference between that and the 6300 is minimal! Sorry my suggestion is kind of pointless :S

I have used crossfire and SLI in the past and to be honest I have always felt like it was a waist of time. Often games are not optimised for it or a driver upgrade ends up breaking it's performance in a game. This is the reason I was looking for an alternative to it for you.

AMD are not offering that big an advance when it comes to CPU these days (not in gaming terms anyway). I don't know your full setup but about a year ago I slapped an SSD in and it was the most impressive upgrade I have ever done. 256GB SSDs are nice and cheap these day so if you do not have one I would suggest that as a good upgrade path until your motherboard needs upgrading.

Sorry if this is useless advice as you have one already.

Thats ok! Thanks for your solution, i do have SSD but my monitor is pretty old too and there are some nice ones out there so probably that will be more noticeable. Has given me some thought into down the track upgrades, thanks again and sorry im not sure how to choose your reply as best answer or to close the thread lol.
