Sli or NO Sli?

I want to upgrade my machine and get better gaming performance, right now I have a core i7 cpu with 4GB of DDR3 memory, working with a Geforce 8600GTS..

SHOULD I :

1. Throw away my current card and upgrade to a newer generation?

OR

2. Buy a 2nd Geforce 8600GTS and go S L I !!!


What do you think?

I would personally upgrade since SLI'ing an 8600GTS isn't all that great for newer games.

8600 is just weak in Sli. Sli is usually for the bigger higher performance cards like 8800's, 9800s (rebrands of 8800s--shrinked die), GTS 250 (shrinked--- redone 8800gts), GTX 260, GTX 275 GTX 280 GTX 295 GTX or crossfire with HD x8xx x9xx x7xx

Yep...even if you SLi another, you will still have barely playable framerates...you're better off getting better cards.

Ok, guys, I think you're exaggerating a little here, I play most games just fine on this card, even the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 runs nicely on them at 1400x900 WITH x4 anti-aliasing...

What kind of performance increase will I see by adding a 2nd card (in percentages) ?

For that resolution i think a 8800GT is still enough and you won't benefit from SLI much in that resolution so either keep your current card if you are happy with its performance of upgrade it

No, I want higher resolution, I just got a 24" monitor! plus, I want higher Anti Aliasing,

Even though it all looks the same and I don't even know what that means!

If you are going to get a 24" monitor then you will benefit from a second 8800GT,other option is getting a card like HD 5850 which performs very well too

My motherboard is ASRock X58 Extreme (supports up to 3 cards in SLI)
