SLI two different brand gtx 980?

It is impossible to SLI two different brands or even models.

Correction: It is possible to SLI two different brands if the memory clock and size are the same, but some cards and models of a specific brand might still refuse to SLI with another brand regardless.

troll. you can sli two different brand gpus aslong as they are the same card(i.e. a msi gtx 980 and a gigabyte gtx 980) so you should be good

more correction, you can also SLI 2 diffrent brands with a different memory size and clockspeed.

Sounds good thank you friend

As other's have corrected, you can SLI two of the same GPUs. Manufacturer, clock speed or VRAM will not dictate the ability to SLI graphic cards. When SLI'ing two different GPUs, the faster card will slow down to match the slower card speeds. You will also be limited to the lower VRAM space (if the sizes are different).

Very informative much appreciated!

as long as there the same series they will work in sli. speed timings are set automatically by the slowest card. if 1 card has less memory the smaller amount is set for the ram. so 4gig + 8 gig would run in a 4 + 4gig config.

you can also plug in a 3rd earlier generation card and use if for dedicated physx its speed isnt governed by the speed of the already existing sli.

nvidia have been able to run these configs, since before kepler.

Gotcha thank you
