Im thinking of doing a slight overhaul of my existing setup. It haa no problems with most newer games, but it can barely run GTA 5 at recommended settings.
I already plan to swap my 16gb 1333 mhz ram with 1600, but I also want to see about doubling the power of my zotac AMP! Edition GTX 980. Problem is, these cards arent easy to find and other brands are more readily available. Id rather not do a full card swap. Could I pair it with another 4GB 980 and be ok?

Full specs:
MSI X79A-GD45(8D) mobo
16GB (4x4) PNY ddr3 1333mhz ram
i7-3930k 6 core-12thread @3.2ghz
Zotac Amp! Edition (Nvidia) GTX 980
EVGA superNOVA 850 psu
Windows 7 pro 64-bit

As mentioned you can use different brands-I think only some evga 970s were a tad picky about working in SLI with others. If you are open to advice though I would consider getting rid of the 980 and upgrading to a single more powerful card. SLI seems to be dying tech-less and less games seem to be making use of it and even then the gains are as great as they used to be. The extra hustle and headaches of trying to get it to work just isn't worth it imo.

Id rather not ditch this card since i got a great deal on it (although that was 2 years ago), I was hoping to hold out til it came time for a new rig. Still, with the RTX line rolling out maybe i should consider upgrading to something like a 1070 TI once prices come down.

Think it would be worth upgrading my CPU to an i7-4930K or a Xeon e5-2687W?
