Hello everyone!

Two days ago, I got my hands on my new EVGA G2 750w power supply. I used the included self test adapter to see if it was working, and it was. However, I heard a very slight (and my this, I mean very slight) whining.

One of my friends say that it is normal, especially with new power supplies, but I want to confirm just in case. Is this normal or is it a sign that something is wrong? Will it go away?

It is not plugged into a motherboard or anything, so it shouldn't be under load. In fact, could that be a reason for why it is whining, how no power is used despite being shorted?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
It isn't unheard of to have a slight coil whine, even with high quality units like the G2.

If it is distracting you could probably RMA it for a replacement, but other than annoying it isn't anything to worry about.
I just installed a 550 G2 in a rig with GTX970 and 6700K and xigmatek cooler and at first I did not think it turned on, no sound. Actually had to look to realize it was running. Quietest build I have done. I doubt you would here very low whine in the actual build.

I see. The coil whine is very very very subtle, so I guess I'll keep it. I just wanted to confirm that it is not due to the PSU having an issue, as I have never built a pc before and is currently super paranoid.

Thanks for the responses.

I don't really know which to pick as the solution... (>;v😉>
