Question Slight memory timing mismatch question

Hello, I currently have 2x8gb of OLoY Warhawk 3200mhz RAM, timing 16-18-18-36 https://www.newegg.ca/oloy-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820821162 I want to add one 16gb stick of the G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 3200mhz RAM, timing 16-18-18-38 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/G-SKILL-Rip...2&algv=Default&_trksid=p2386202.c100677.m4598 As you can see the timing is slightly off by just 2. Will these still work together at the slower speed like with mhz or is timing strict? They apparently use the same or similar SpecTek ICs and both run at 1.35V. My motherboard is an Asus X-470 Pro. Thanks for any advice, getting another oloy stick isn't really feasible in Canada right now for a reasonable price or I'd just keep it simple and do that. I should also add that I'll eventually get another 16gb stick so my total would be 48gb.

Yes and no.



Ryzen don't like odd numbers, 1 or 3, so you'll have performance issues there. Ryzen also really do not like 4 sticks, not unless you are willing to sacrifice speeds.

With an X470 mobo, best bet is buy a 2x16Gb or 2x32Gb kit and sell the 2x8Gb kit you already have. It's the only way you'll get lucky and see the whole 3200MHz. Adding a 3rd stick will get you 24Gb, but the price will be 2667MHz or 2933MHz if you are extremely lucky.

Mismatched timings isn't much of an issue, the bios will run all the ram at the same timings, that being the worst set.

Brand is of no issue at all, very few brands are actually made by the vendor, like Crucial or Samsung. Most brands are made by only a few OEMs, like Samsung, SkHynix or Micron. The brand is just a paint job on a hunk of aluminium and has no bearing on what's inside.

Hmm I haven't really heard of that before. Just to clarify I'm adding 1x16 to a 2x8 kit so my total should be 32 not 24. Quite a few people have reported it working fine with 2 on one bank and the 16 in the other even with daisy chain topology.
I may take the risk that it wont work but I would definitely like to hear more about that issue.
If I do end up only managing 2667mhz but still have 32gb that's better than where I'm at now, currently being unable to work any further on my musical projects because I've maxed my RAM.
They both also use SpecTek ICs so the chances of it working might be higher.
