Hi,
I just purchased a new laptop, the Asus Vivobook s530.
Today I noticed that when the HDD is in use, and when I put my hands entirely on the palmrest, I can feel a slight vibration, though no noise. Only a faint continuous vibration.
When the HDD stops, then the vibration also stops.
Also, this only happens when I keep the laptop on a bed. When it is on table or something rigid, then the vibration cant be felt at all.
Is this normal?
Thanks!

Solution
on a different bed I cant feel any vibration
This is probably more related to the material that you're resting it, probably not to do with the HDD itself.

Can these minor vibrations damage my system or life of the hard disk?
Your HDD is likely fine - you can always check for anything obvious using CrystalDiskInfo or HD Sentinel.

But it is probably fine, I would just make sure everything is secure first. HDDs are quite resistant to vibrations.
HDD vibration is completely normal.
Ultimately when it is in use, you have a platter/spindle spinning at 7200RPM (for example) and actuators and heads moving to read/write data. So it's absolutely bound to vibrate.
You also just want to make sure it has good access to cool air (which may explain why the issue is worse on a hot duvet and not a cool hard surface for example).

Realistically as long as it's screwed in properly, it shouldn't be too bad- you can also get dampeners if it is a problem.

It's funny... when I am using the laptop on a different bed I cant feel any vibration... 😛
Also no vibration when using on a table etc.
So is my HDD okay? Can these minor vibrations damage my system or life of the hard disk?

Thank you for your reply! I also am sure now that it is a material issue...
