Hey there,

I'm planning a build and am planning a crossfire build with 2 4GB R9-270X Gigabyte-OC with an i7-4790. I understand I have to go with the Z97 chipset but I'm on a tight budget so I'm just looking for the basic features. The motherboard I have in mind is Gigabyte Z97-HD3. It has 2 PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots but the second runs at x4 when two are plugged in. Is this alright or is it a bottleneck?

Cheers

x16 and x4 is going to negate just about any real benefit you could derive from crossfire/SLI. Legend's right on wanting x16 + x8 preferably. Either free up some space in the budget for a better motherboard, or risk getting heavily bottlenecked and possibly losing performance compared to running single card.
