[SOLVED] Slow 2.4g network 300mbps vs 150.

I'm in a dorm-type enviroment. My old adapter is getting unreliable, so I'm looking at getting a cheap new one with a 5dbi antenna. Speed test over ethernet shows a maximum of around 50mbps. When my current adapter is working right I'm getting 35mbps. Not really, you're better off just picking up the cheapest WiFi adapter for your system. Antenna's do help with range and reception from your router though the underlying factor is the technology off of which the adapter is based on.

If the dorm's network is improved upon, meaning you getting a higher bandwidth or you're moving out to a place that has better bandwidth then yes the higher priced adapter is worth it.

I would recommend getting a dual band WIFI adapter. In a crowded WIFI environment like a dorm, moving to 5Ghz is a much better choice. It isn't for max performance, but for max reliability.
