I'm in a dorm-type enviroment. My old adapter is getting unreliable, so I'm looking at getting a cheap new one with a 5dbi antenna. Speed test over ethernet shows a maximum of around 50mbps. When my current adapter is working right I'm getting 35mbps. Given that it looks like I wouldn't max out a 150mbs connection, is there any advantage in getting a 300mbps adapter? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketp...reless-networking/adaptors/listing/2990746711 vs https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketp...reless-networking/adaptors/listing/2990799836

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Not really, you're better off just picking up the cheapest WiFi adapter for your system. Antenna's do help with range and reception from your router though the underlying factor is the technology off of which the adapter is based on.

If the dorm's network is improved upon, meaning you getting a higher bandwidth or you're moving out to a place that has better bandwidth then yes the higher priced adapter is worth it.
