I just installed SP2 - successfully. Boot up from the Welcome screen to
idle is about 40 to 50% longer than prior to SP2. Does anyone hany any
experience and thoughts on this. (Machine has 512 MB memory and tons of disk
space.

Thanks

Defrag the hard drive. It will take at least three rebboots for the
optimization routines in XP to run and speed things up. The prefetch folder
will be rebuilt after you open each program a few times. That should speed
things up too.

If after all that, it is still slow, then use clean boot troubleshooting to
see what programs might be the culprit. Using this on my system I found one
program loading at boot that was slowing things. I uninstalled/reinstalled
and now back to 30 second boots.

It is not uncommon for a preexisting problem to become more severe
after an update especially a Service Pack.
All problems known and unknown should be eliminated before installing
updates or Service Packs.

SP-2 may have caused the problem, but it is also very possible an
unknown problem already existed now more obvious after installing
SP-2.
