Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this. To preface, I experienced an Internet outage two nights ago that lasted for 30 minutes. After the outage, all connection resumed for all devices in my house. However, I noticed that my desktop (which is connected via ethernet), had a significantly slower connection.

I recently upgraded to 1Gbps internet, and prior to the outage it was working perfectly fine, around 900 Mbps download and upload. However, after the outage, the number fluctuates, but usually is at around 800 Mbps download and 0.1 Mbps. Load times for websites and media have significantly slowed. YouTube videos constantly buffer the instant I click into them. Meanwhile, all other ethernet-connected devices in the house are working perfectly fine.

Since my PC has built in WiFi, I tried connecting it. For some reason that works, but not my ethernet?

Some steps I have taken:
  1. Turned on and off my router and PC.
  2. I have reached out to my ISP, and they report nothing wrong on their end.
  3. I have tried plugging into a different port on the router.
  4. I have tried plugging my desktop into my brother's ethernet cable that's working fine for him.
  5. I know it's dumb, but I even tried redoing the ends of my ethernet cable.
  6. I have tried redownloading the LAN drivers from Intel and from ASUS (my motherboard).

At this point , I think it's an issue on my computer (either software or hardware), but I'm just completely lost right now.

Specs (not sure if it matters):
Windows 10 Pro
CPU: i7-12700K
Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
Graphics Card: Asus GeForce RTX 3080 10GB 10 GB TUF GAMING OC

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

Can you include the make and model of your router? Might be a good idea to see if your router is pending any firmware updates. As for your platform, have you tried working with another cable? Can you also see what the BIOS version for your motherboard is at this moment of time? Try reinstalling your LAN drivers in an elevated command, after uninstalling it.

The model of my router is Verizon's CR1000A. I have tried working with another cable, but the issue seems to be the same. My bios version is currently version 1601. I know 1720 is the latest, but I tried installing an older version to see if it worked. I have also tried reinstalling my LAN drivers multiple times, but the issue is still the same.

This:

"I know it's dumb, but I even tried redoing the ends of my Ethernet cable. "

Not dumb. Just a bit on the "last resort" side of things. When all else has failed. Terminating Ethernet cables can be quite tricky especially if you are not accustomed to doing such things.

And you did try another known working (at speed) Ethernet cable between your PC and router - correct?

Ensure that only one network adapter (either wired or wireless) is enabled on your PC. Not both at the same time.

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt. Post the results.

Check the router's logs. There may be some clue therein. Who has full admin rights to the router? You will need help from that person.

Yep, I did try another known working cable.

I have disabled all other network adapters.

I went into the logs for my router, but unfortunately I can't go far back enough to when the outage occurred.

IPv6 many times has a less optimum path than IPv4. You are running both so you kinda get random results, some sites run fine and others do not depending on if they use IPv4 or IPv6.

Not sure why this happens. They have been saying IPv6 is the "future" of the internet for almost 20 years and it still has these strange issues. Mostly this was done when they were concerned about running out of ipv4 addresses but that is not as bad a issue as they though with the use of NAT.
