[SOLVED] slow harddisk causes explorer to crash

I have an external harddisk that has started to not work. when i go into the folders with files it freezers. Not only that but then i can't end the process or restart explorer so i have to restart my computer.
How do i fix this? I got Windows 10

This is often a sign of impending failure of the drive. Hopefully anything important on it has long since been backed up.
