Hello community,

Recently my msi gs70 (laptop) started having a problem where games would temporarily freeze up for a few seconds every once in a while. when this happens, i can feel the computer's HDD begin spinning up. After it fully sins up, the game will resume to run perfectly. This issue seems to only happen with games, and video files, but only when unpausing video files. A friend of mine with the same problem told me he solved it by replacing his SATA3 cables connecting his HDD to the motherboard with SATA2 cables. However, since i'm having thiss issue with my laptop, i'd like to know if anyone has a solution that doesn't involve opening the PC.

Thanks,
JKC

Hey there, jkc173.

Well it's difficult to say what would it take to fix your computer. First I'd suggest that you backup any important data which you might have on that HDD, just to be on the safe side. After that, I'd recommend that you download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostics tool (or a 3rd party diagnostics tool if the manufacturer doesn't offer one) and test the drive with it, to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up. Please let me know what are the results of the tests.
However, if you are willing to get the drive out of the laptop, I'd suggest that you try it with a different computer, to see if the same thing happens. If you keep getting similar errors, it would probably mean that the HDD is at fault and the SATA cables and the SATA ports are OK or the other way around.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
