Slow Intel CPU/memory?

Had a Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H with AMD 6000+ CPU but have changed to a Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 with a Q6700 CPU but in the WEI rating (using the same memory) I only get a rating of 5.3 for the memory (4GB Crucial Ballistix) when on the old board I had a rating of 5.9 (4GB Crucial Ballistix).
This gives a gaming rating of 5.6 with the Q6700 and 5.8 with the AMD6000+,
the system also benchmarks lower in 3D Mark 03 (34000 with AMD and 11000 with Intel).
Any ideas why this would be?

there's a simple reason for your WEI rating .
according to microsoft documents (which i don't know where have i read them 😉 ) memory rating of vista (a.k.a ME II) doesn't rely on the size or type of memory you're using , it mostly relies on the throughput of your memory .
and cause of that all the AMD based computers will get better rating than intel ones ( AMD Athlon 64 family as well as Phenom & Opteron have got integrated memory controller which leads to higher memory bandwidth as well as lower latencies).
and always remember not to rely on microsoft WEI rating that much.
also don't rely on 3d mark 03 benchmarks either , it doesn't support multi threaded processors that well , try 3d mark 06 or even 05 they're much more reliable .
but you may be in trouble with your intel setup , cause the delta of your amd and intel score in 3dmark 03 isn't negligible.
BTW test another application and post your results.

Ran 3DMark06 Intel setup result is 3316 and the AMD was 10008, anything else I can run to try and diagnose any problems?

Have you downloaded the most recent drivers for the hardware on the system? If you are using vista 64-bit it might just poor hardware support on the OS side. Maybe try the Beta drivers that they have out for vista.

The brand is immaterial: How fast is your RAM set up to run on your Intel system? I'm running DDR2 800 (400 FSB), and get a 5.9 across the board. As pointed out already - It's *throughput* that matters in this case. So FSB/RAM speed.

yeah, take a look at what CPU-Z tells you... something isn't set up right if you get so low 3dmark scores for the new system..

whats your videocard and power supply? You didnt mention those in your posts

Video is BFG 8800 GTX OC and the PSU is a Tagan 1300w, gonna check cpu-z

CPU-Z looks alright but in the Clocks (Core#0) section the Multiplier keeps flicking between x10.0 and x6.0 which gives 2 separate Core Speeds.
Is this normal in a quad core?
I've always had AMD cpu's before so this is new to me.

That's SpeedStep dropping the CPU down to save power/heat. Ignore it.


Again: How fast is your RAM running?

Well, he may want to turn off SpeedStep.
It could be throwing off the benchmarks.

RAM is running at 400Mhz (only thing altered is uping the voltage from 1.8 motherboard default to 2.2 memory speed)

disable EIST and C1E in the bios, that should take care of the speedstep.
Though that isn't the reason for the low scores...

Took system apart as last resort, put it back together and it seems alright now.
I can only assume that something wasn't seated correctly.
