Hey guys.
I was experiencing really slow wireless internet while gaming these days. The cause was that my brother was watching youtube or my family was doing something hard with the internet at the same time. I saw many saying that i should try ethernet cables and wired internet and finally I bought one. Then when i tried it, it was the same slow internet.
I connected just the ethernet cable trough the router and trough the computer.
Im using a thomson tg789vn with a Exibel CAT-6 cable. My house has 3 floors and i live in the highest one and router is in the last.
Can someone please help me and give me an answer if its the range of the two things, or if its the router that is bad?

I suspect you are going to need a router with a vdsl connection. You need to see if your ISP has a list of routers they support or more importantly ones the do not. You could I suppose run a second router in front of your current one if you wanted.

The newer asus and tplink have fairly advanced QoS settings. I just hope you really do have the authority to do this or we will see him posting here....someone in my family is preventing me from watching my youtube how to I bypass them.

Yeah, i was planning to move the router to the second floor but i don't know if that's its the reason. I don't wanna spend alot of money on something that i don't know works or not. I don't know if the ethernet connection is based on the range or if its the router itsself. Thank you for youre answer.

That is not what he said. Your ethernet cable can run at 1g to a length of 100 meters. It does not matter if it is 10 meters or 90 meters it will still run just as fast.

If you only have say 5m package from your isp and he is using 4m to watch his video there is only 1m left for you. Video uses a lot of bandwidth, netflix recommends a 20mbit or larger connection to watch the 4k videos.

Likely your only option is to buy more internet bandwidth from the ISP.

I know the feel Manzi. What is your bandwith? I have a 12Mbit down 1.5Mbit up connection, and whenever someone watched youtube I could not play online games. The problem is with youtube, for some reason it consumes the whole bandwith you allow it, up to 25-30Mbits, so if you are below that number it will consume everything you have. Try to limit the bandwith of the others to around 80% of the bandwith you have in your router. I limited my parents/sister to 8mbits, so youtube can only consume that much, leaving me with 4 mbits which is enough for online gaming.

Ok ty

I could try but i don't know how do it..

What you would use to limit the traffic is QoS and not all routers have good implementation.

Still that is not your actual problem it is just a technical way to implement multiple people sharing a internet connection.

Your problem is can you tell everyone else that your games are more important than what they are doing. Why could you not just yell down the hall and say stop watching youtube I want to play my game.

Putting limitation in the router is close to the same thing. When there is only so much bandwidth someone will not get what they want. It will likely come down to whoever pays for the connection makes the rules.

Yeah, i still yell to my brother to stop watching and so he stopts.. sometimes -..- My router stil shit that it has not QoS... Should i get a new router? If so wireless and with the ethernet? Btw thank you for answering me

Yeah, im first thinking to reboot the hole router and see if that works. If not, ill change ISP to a better one with better bandwidth for both my brother and me. Then i will buy a fiber router with ethernet. Looking forward to that 😀
