Slow Internet Speeds from AT&T

Currently paying for 45 mbps from AT&T however only getting in the range of 5-10 mbps. Is this an issue with the ISP, line, or router? How can i fix this because these speeds are unacceptable.

Is your 5-10Mbps speed based on running speedtest.net with an Ethernet connected computer or are you using a wireless connection?

If wireless, you need to check your wired speed and then troubleshoot your wireless network. Two different issues that are not clear from your initial post (although your tags indicate that you may be having a wireless issue).

If you are having a speed issue with only the wireless, I would start by downloading and running the free version of inSSIDer, a wireless analyzer from HERE. Could well just be interference that needs some wireless adjustments. If it is a slow wired connection, you will need ATT to fix that.

I downloaded inSSIDer and changed to the appropriate channel for the best connection, however now we are getting 3mbps this has to be a wireless issue.

I am not able to test wired connection right now so i am having to just use wireless.

Ok well apparently my laptop is getting 40 and my desktop is getting 3... is it my desktops wireless card then?

Perhaps the desktop wireless card placement is suboptimal -- next to an interference source or metal/electrical stuff. You can try moving it around or using a USB wireless adapter with a 10 foot USB extension to allow better placement.
