Hi, lately my PC has had some problems when first loading games. Warhammer Vermintide took maybe 5-6 minutes to load into the first match. Overwatch took so long it timed out of the game, and same with Starcraft. Once loaded once it loads faster but still rather slow. Computer specs are
i7 4790k
16gb pc3-10700 corsair
gtx 970
ssd (windows install)
hdd (for games)
Thanks for the help.

Tipster, I don't want OP to get confused. I believe you meant that moving the games to the SSD would decrease load times.. I like your recommendation for an SSD. But if OP has free space on his/her SSD, then there's no need to buy another one.

Also, OP please follow the instructions below...

Let's clean up startup objects to free up RAM and CPU clock.

If you have Windows 7, press Win+R to open Run, type in msconfig, press Enter, system configuration opens. Navigate to the startup tab.

If you have Windows 8/8.1/10, press Control+Shift+Escape to open Task Manager, navigate to the startup tab.

Once you're in the startup tab in either window, disable everything except for drivers. If anything says Intel, Nvidia, GeForce...
Hey,
Does the ssd that windows is installed on have any space left over? because if this is the case then moving some of the games you play most often onto that ssd will significantly increase load times! on my ssd compared to my hdd Battlefield 4 took half the time to load onto the exact same map.

If by some chance your ssd doesn't have any space free on it then buying another one is also an option. You can get 128gb and 256gb ssd's for quite cheap.

Hard Disk Drives are slow, compared to ssd's anyway. Getting a new ssd or moving your games to your current ssd would probably be the best solution to speeding up your loading times :)

Here is a guide to moving games onto an ssd from steam:

Here is an ssd i recommend:

Hope you can load your games quick in no time :)

Please note that disabling a startup program does not stop it from working, it only stops it from running in the background as soon as Windows starts. It will still work when you launch it.

Programs that are running in the background are consuming RAM, some of the hard drive's read/write time, and maybe some of the CPU's clock. The less programs running, the more responsive the system.

Thank you for the tips, and I will try that weberdarren97, but I forgot to mention too this is like super unusually slow. It also makes the disk usage of the hdd go to 100% during these load times, with the game not being at the top. System is usually the first thing.
