Hello --
Hope someone can help. I have a year old 2TB Seagate Barracuda drive which was originally mounted in an XP computer I use as a media server. The drive was working fine, then suddenly it was unable to access the disk. I pulled the SATA drive out and mounted it on a Win8 computer and it can see the drive and often I can read the contents of the drive (there are 2 partitions and it can see both partitions and contents). The problem is trying to copy/use any of the files the drive slows to a crawl and often will not complete the operation. Going to File Explorer, and selecting "My Computer" the contents of the drive will show up very slowly or not at all (window becomes unresponsive). The older XP computer cannot see the drive any longer; but, again, it will work under Win8 to a certain degree.
Is this drive (more importantly) the contents salvageable? The drive sounds to spin properly. Ran CHKDSK overnight and it got to step #4 without incident, but became hung up at some point that it was no longer moving (percentage wise) in the software. I do have a hardware drive cloning device which I thought maybe if I purchase another drive I could clone it via hardware but not sure if that would migrate the problems to the new drive? Or, if anyone has any other suggestions that would be very helpful. Many pics and videos on this drive I hope to save -- if I could only get the drive to mount properly and consistently. THANKS SO MUCH!!
