Hi there,

My computer began acting up about a year ago now after I upgraded from 8gb (2 sticks) to 16gb (2 + 2 sticks of exactly the same model and speed) of RAM. After a few days, the computers performance dropped so rapidly that I couldn't even launch basic tasks, and it would shut itself off. After a lot of troubleshooting, the only thing that resolved this issue was removing the CMOS battery, thereby resetting the bios. Afterwards, the computer was as good as new.

This problem has kept on reoccuring for the past year. After about a week or two of use, it will begin slowing down, and will only speed up again once I removed the CMOS battery.

Yesterday, I decided to run UserBenchmark when it was running extremely slow. I scored in the 0th percentile in every single component. I then removed the CMOS battery, launched up again, and ran UserBenchmark. My PC was now running in the 60th percentile+ in most parts.

Any idea what could be causing this issue? Obviously it is something that is fixible by removing the CMOS, but it is extremely annoying to do all the time. I have searched deeply on other forums for something similar, but have yet to see anyone else with the same problem.

Thanks for your time!

Have you tried replacing the cmos battery with a new one? What is your pc build? Check to see if you have a bios update for your motherboard. If there is an update, and you are confident to do so, replace the cmos battery and update the bios. See if this helps.
