Slow PIII 667

PIII 667 VIA VT82693A (MSI 6153VA mobo) 128MB RAM Win98SE
Twice as much cpu is being used to run the same apllications as my friend who runs a PIII 500. Using logic audio, every effect (reverb) added takes twice as much cpu therefore i can only run half as many effects. Help would be greatly appreciated!

update BIOS, and load newest VIA drivers

VIA chipset would the the first place I would suspect problem.

This is probably the second time I have agreed with Fugger. VIA chipsets require more overhead than Intel chipsets, I think it is because of their crappy drivers.
