Hello,

My external hard drive works very slowly (see picture). I have a Windows 10 system.
I tested the drive on another computer (win7) and had ~ 30MB / s write speeds.
I formatted drive, connected the different USB ports, did not help.

My system:

Biostar G31-M7 TE Ver, 6.5
Xeon E5450 771mod
4GB DDR2 RAM
WD 2TB drive

Samsung M3 1TB portable drive

Can anyone help me? :??:

Hey there, J3rn3j.

Good job trying it out with a different computer and posting the SMART data. I'd also recommend that you try the drive with a different USB cables as well. It seems like the drive itself is in a good condition (judging by the SMART values), so let's hope it's a faulty cable. However you could still test it with a diagnostic tool by running an extended/long test to see if anything out of the ordinary pops-up.

Please let me know how everything goes.

Thx, for the fast respond.
i tested now with my mobile phone mini usb cable.... still the same slow speeds.

Now I tested 8Gb Transcend JetFlash USB key and I got the same slow R / W speed than with the external disk.

Something is wrong with USB Ports, Drivers?

Well, if the drive does not have any signs of errors or damage and since you've tested it both with different USB cables and different computers and you still have no luck, it might be a faulty HDD. I'd recommend that you get in touch with the HDD manufacturer's customer support, to see if you can RMA it (if it's still under warranty).

However if you're still getting 30-35MB/s note that this is somewhat normal for USB 2.0 depending on the drive as well. If the 1MB speed is just with one of the ports or computers, perhaps the problem is not the drive. It would be helpful if you could test another HDD with that port/computer to see if the same thing happens.

edit: seems like you've posted while I was typing. Try updating or reinstalling the motherboard's chipset drivers to see if that fixes things up
