Slow shutdown

Since I networked my 2 systems together using ISC my system takes alot longer to shut down(appr 60 sec.) I have a pentium 111-600eb with 128 ram. The other system is a pentium-133with 80mb ram, both running win 98. The pent-133 has no problems in shutdown. The Pent. 111 has 2 nic as I have cable modem. One nic is connected to the modem & the other is connected to a hub. The system has disabled fast shutdowns (is this part of ICS?) and when I unclick this box it will not shutdown only reboot. Slow shutdown even occurs when the pent-133 is not turned on. Would an additional stick of 128 ram help or are there any other solutions?

The disable fast shutdown was put in for certain power management systems. As you said, if you unclick it it will reboot.

I don't think extra RAM would help you out very much...I sounds like there is a program that is not closing at shutdown and that is what is taking so long.

Brign up task manager ( CTRL+ALT+DEL ) and see what is in the list...one of those programs will most likely be your problem.

Check under your network adapter settings if Browse Master is set to yes it will cause slow shutdowns sometimes.

Yes under file and print sharing browse master is set to automatic. It can also be set to enabled or disabled. Not familier with this setting, so can I disable and not affect the home network?

It may affect the amount of time the computers see each other maybe. I have had some problems with my home network setups, using only TCP/IP, and when I disable the browse master I could never see the computers, but when I enabled it I could, then again I enabled it on all 3 machines not 1. I belive just one machine needs to be set as browse master. Try it out, experiment a little. I will try it out on my home network when I get home. I have one machine that takes forever to shutdown, but I rarely ever shut it down.

Ok, it wasn't Browse Master that I disabled, I left that on automatic, and set my LM Announce to "No" and it sped up shutdown time greatly.
