Hi all,

i have bought a "new" ram set. 4x4 3200 mhz. (CMK16GX4M4B3200C16R)

Since i have installed it my pc is having a very slow start-up. It starts with a black screen and after several seconds (+10 sec) it will boot (asus screen and windows). That happends at normal speed. I have put the settings on XMP.

When looking at speccy, it sais my memory is running at 1600. So that should be ok (1600*2=3200).

I have a Z170 pro gaming + i5 6600k.

In the meantime ( i had xmp on and off, so most problems were cause i just set the ram on 3200 without adjusting timings (Auto)). it also had a message saying windows was damaged and i should repair (a quick reboot solved the problem) and sometimes i get the message overlocking failed, but i havnt had that one the last couple of times).

My full system is listed here: https://tweakers.net/gallery/668490/inventaris/. "eigen pc".

Should i run XMP and manually adjust voltage to fix the problem? i can only put xmp on 3200, not lower. ( i am not sure if it uses the correct voltage atm.)

Many thanks.

note: when logged into windows typing will be slow (in chrome for example) for a bit of time, while all programs run smootly)

Solution
Try this.

For the memory try setting the speed it runs at to 3000 Mhz as a manual option instead of selecting the Xmp profile of the memory that should be present when selecting the speed of the memory.

Try doing it with the main Xmp option of the motherboard enabled, and disabled.

If the system speeds up and the the delay goes away it means only one thing.

That the Cpu you have if the memory controler is part of it cannot reach or run at the speed of the memory fitted to the system.

The board may except it, the memory and set up the correct speed latency timing values and voltage settings for the ram modules.

But if the memory controler is part of the cpu relating to bus speed cannot reach that speed or frequency, it is why you...

But if the memory controler is part of the cpu relating to bus speed cannot reach that speed or frequency, it is why you get such a lag and delay because the timing between the cpu bus speed and the memory is so great and out of sync hence the bad delay and lagging at loading, taking longer Christiaan.

What it means is in order to run the memory at its rated 3200 xmp rated speed, it may be the case that you have to have installed as a cpu an i7 and not an I5 cpu.

I will try that and give and update on sunday. Isnt it weird that after some time (dunno how long maybe 30 sec) the pc will run normal (no more lagg or anything, anywhere. typing will also normalise). Does the system need a minute to adept to the ram modules? i would expect that if it doesnt work, it wouldnt simply fix itself within a minute after windows startup.
