Hi guys,

I have a relatively new build ( a little over 2 months). I have this strange problem with poor transfer speeds between internal hard drives and USB hard drives. The speed will start off high and drop to either zero or less than 300KB. I have observed this happening with my USB 3.0 drives and my internal drives (one SSD, one WD Black Edition). It doesn't occur all the time, but often, which makes this a frustrating issue. Has anyone else come across a problem like this? I sometimes wonder if my motherboard is defective.

At first I thought maybe just a bad USB port on the case, but now my hard drives are doing it. I rebooted, and it seems to be transferring fine again. What's going on?

Specs:
Crucial SSD
WD Black 1TB
MSI Gaming 5 (Micro ATX)
4790K
650W power supply
SLI GTX970's

Hi there transparency24,

I would suggest you to update your MOBO drivers(SATA ones, USB 3.0 ones, etc.). You can find them on the manufacturer's website.
If the issue persists, it may be a good idea to test your drives with brand specific tools and see whether there is something wrong with them.
You can test the WD drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Auh9aR
Another thing you can try is to swap/replace cables(SATA, power, USB) as well as ports(SATA, USB).

Cheers,
