Slow WiFi Download Speeds on PC With TP-Link Archer T8E and Archer C7

We have just upgraded our wireless network at home and I am experiencing extremely slow download speeds through the new Archer T8E Card.

Our wireless router is a TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router. We just purchased it last week and set it up.

I have updated the firmware to the latest version. We are connecting through the 2.4 ghz connection. The channel is set to 8 with 40ghz (this was getting the "fastest" speed).

I have a Laptop and a PC, the PC has the Archer T8E Card installed and the laptop has a wireless Intel adapter built in.

Hardwired through the router the laptop puts out 110-115mbps download speed through Speedtest.net.

When I put the laptop on wireless, it achieves around 95-100mbps download speed when in the same room as the router.

I have the PC in the next room. When I bring the laptop in the next room, under the "weaker" signal (still shows full bars) the laptop gets about 60-70mbps for a download speed.

HOWEVER, the PC only gets 5-10mbps. (Range is not an issue, it shows full bars). This is supposed to be better hardware and yet the download speed is dismal.

This PC is a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. All updates done. Drivers are the latest available from the TP Link website.

I'm guessing this is some sort of wireless card configuration issue. Any thoughts?

Both the Wireless Adapter and Router are brand new, we purchased them less then a week ago.

Have you tried the 5Ghz bands? That adapter can do AC, so try to take advantage of that. If not, you just wasted money on a card and router with features you're not using. Also no problems with channel overlap as there are many more channels, and more space between them.

Also, for the 2.4Ghz... set channel to 'auto'. Otherwise use 1, 6, or 11 only. Any other channels are asking for interference, especially if you are doing 40Mhz channel width. if you have any neighbors close by, the 2.4Ghz channels can be saturated, so lots of interference. If you have an android phone, you can install a free app called 'wifi analyzer' that can show you nearby wireless and what channels they are on.

I am having the exact same problem. New build with the same speeds you are reporting. Very disappointing. Even slower on 5 ghz. I have a linksys ea6900 router and my laptop is getting 90mbps from the same distance as the comp. the comp gets 10mbps. tried uninstalling drivers multiple times. Will do some more digging and report back any results.

So you have to be plugged in to a pci-e 3.0 slot on your mobo. I was plugged into a normal pci slot and then moved it to the 3.0 slot and now the nic is running as advertised. Give that a shot and see if that helps.:D

So unfortunately even through I bought this for the 5ghz, the signal is barely 2 bars. The speed is even slower using the 5ghz.

In regards to the slots. My motherboard is a Biostar TH67+. It's only a PCI-Express 2.0.

I have a graphics card that takes up two slots and it sits in the x16 slot covering up the x1 slot. So the only other PCI Express slot I have available is the x4. That's the one the card is plugged into.

I don't have any option to try it in a different slot unfortunately. (at least not keep it there)

TP-Link support finally e-mailed back through. They said to try a driver from the chipset manufacturer. It's a BCM4360KMLG chipset. Can't find drivers on their website but figure that would help people wanting to know what the Chipset on the T8E is.

I'm thinking of getting rid of this card and sending it back and going with the Intel 7260HMWDTX1. I figured that with the TP-Link router I would get best results with a TP-Link adapter, but my Intel one in the Laptop is getting great speed.

Any recommendations for a different adapter?

getting the same brand for adapter/router doesn't make much difference :) The protocols are standard, so any brand should work with any other brand.

For the high end cards there isn't much selection. That intel card is as good as any.

II am having the same issue. I changed cable providers and was using an old Archer wireless N PCI card. The new router provided by TWC, had baked in wireless AC. I put the 5 Ghz network in mixed mode (N and AC). The 5Ghz wireless N card picked up the 5Ghz network with full bars and 450Mbps speed. That's the max for N. I bought the new card, and connecting to the same 5Ghz network from the same router only had one bar signal and only connecting at 500Mbs, not the advertised 1300Mbs. I'm a network engineer by trade, so I know the same 5Ghz radio signal should be the same on wireless Ac as it is on N. Basically is a card problem. I returned the card and the replacement did the same thing. Poking around on TV Links website, revealed that this card is not compatible with Windows 10, while the older card is. I will try the chips etc driver and update this post if that works.
