Slow WiFi speeds

So my roommate and I are paying for 120+MB/s download speeds and are only getting 5-10MB/s download speeds when wireless and getting ~122MB/s download speeds when wired (tested with my laptop, not desktop). We are both using 802.11n capable wireless cards on 2.4GHz. Our phones can connect to the 5GHz frequencies and are getting around 50MB/s download. I've tried a few things to fix it but none seem to work.

So you already know the answer. Don't use 2.4GHz. It's probably overcrowded

So since there are a lot of wireless networks out where i am, they are all messing with one another?

Exactly. That why we have 5GHz. In areas with many individual networks there are not enough channels/bandwidth. This is especially problematic in apartment complexes
