Small business network

I'm trying to sep up a small server or NAS for a real estate office. They have 5 computers and their main goal is to share/save quickbooks pro. They dont need remote access and would like to back up the server off site or online. They don't need anything fancy and trying to keep it under $1000. I'm thinking about getting a 8-12 port switch, cat 5 cables, and a small server like this

I'm thinking of running FreeNAS and Server 08 R2, what do you guys think? Am I on the right path?

Yes, a small gigabit switch and CAT 5e cables would be best to accommodate computer upgrades or if they already have gigabit machine NICs.

If you want to keep the solution under $1000 FreeNAS is probably your best bet unless they cannot maintain it (then a small NAS box might be better like THIS one).

They can always backup to an online free site to start like hotfile if they have an adequate Internet connection and not too much data. There are also many good commercial backup solutions, I've used Carbonite for a few folks.
