Alright ill try to sum this up quickly. i just built a pc, in the building i live in i dont have any access to any ethernet ports, which means wifi is the only way to go for me. i got a usb wi fi adapter and i thought it would come with the drivers, but i have to download them! and since i cant connect to the internet i cant. so it looks like im going to have to buy a pci card for the motherboard, so my question is: do pci internal wi fi cards function natively, or do you have to download drivers for them too?! thank you. because i wont be able to get online without this info. (im using a laptop right now)

Solution

The internal card will almost certainly need drivers as well.

1. Download the drivers using your laptop
2. Transfer Drivers via usb/cd
3. Easy.

this laptop is incredibly slow though. the harddrive broke so i had to install the os on a usb stick... and yeah not very fast. i know i can do that so thank you. but i still have to ask if the internal cards work natively. thanks!

crud! oh well (begins hour long download for tiny drivers) lol thanks! oh one last question. alot of internal cards come with software disks (like the gpu) so would a wi fi pci come with one or would that be the same deal as the usb (having to use the internet)

All depends on the manufacturer and what they put in the box.

so my only question now is what is the best option for someone like me without any ethernet access?. i really want to avoid using my laptop (i will if i have to)
