Evening all. im looking at a small (cheap) upgrade on my pc. mainly the CPU i want to start with or if anyone can suggest lots of cheap upgrades im all ears. The current specs are
CPU-AMD A10 7700k
RAM-12GB ddr3
MOBO-MSI A78M-E35 V2
onboard R7 Graphics but have just ordered a 750 gtx TI 2GB
1tb HDD
i will eventually get round to getting an ew system but not until end of next year so want to improve this a bit. looking at around 100-150 budget as it will be given to my daughter when i upgrade. shes playing games like fortnite but on this at the moment it will only play on very low settings.

Thanks in advance

As far as CPU, the Athlon X4 880k would be an option, but not a very good option at all. That platform is dead. I would not put any money into that system.

Your really only option is a new platform. But for not much more than $150 you could get something that would be an improvement.

Well, seeing how your board is an FM2+, your only options if you want to use the board again is to either get a faster A-Series Chip or switch to an Athlon (as mentioned above). To be honest, it's better if you save your cash and upgrade the Board, CPU and RAM. Intel or AMD? Depends how deep your pockets are.

Sticking to that platform will barely make a difference in performance (as far as Gaming). And that 750 GTX should be good to run a couple of games on mid to low-high settings.

Too bad you don't have an AM3+ board as you would have a bit more options. But then again, the AM3+ platform still lags behind 3rd Gen Intel chips.

Im open to any cheap new system build. i will take a look, i have been looking for cpu's for the board so thats probably why i cant see any if its a dead system. would switching to intel be better overall then?

Ryzen is not a bad platform to be honest. The Ryzen CPU's are cheaper than Intel's and they are outperforming a couple of Intel's chips. I personally would never pay MSRP for an Intel Chip. Prices are ridiculous.

But then again Intel is Intel, and let's face it, most programs run better on Intel chips (but that's changing with Ryzen now).

Ok fair enough, so would a mobo and cpu upgrade be an idea for a ryzen? if so any idea what entry level one would be useful for light-med games?

ah ok, ive found a prebuilt pc that someone will let go for 50 its got an i3 3240 3.4ghz in it with a ga h61m s2pv mobo. only 2 GB but i can upgrade that. would that pair well with a gtx750 ti?

Intel's products still have value and generally they beat AMD's offerings core for core. But AMD 's Ryzen are very good CPUs and offer a very good value. So you really cant go wrong with either as long as they meet your needs.

Here is an entry level Ryzen build that I would recommend. It cost a little bit more than the budget Intel build above because the G4560 is still a very good value.
