Smaller monitor, better FPS?

I'm considering buying a new monitor, something in the 21-24" range.

My question/concern is, right now I'm using my 32" offbrand television as a computer monitor. I'm wondering if downgrading to something smaller would increase the performance/FPS of my games. If so, by how much? And would it be worth it? Thank you.

i5 3570k (OC to 4.2 mhz)
Geforce 650 Ti Boost 2gb
16 MB RAM
Windows 7

The size means nothing - RESOLUTION is the key. A 32" 720p tv requires less GPU power than a single 23" 1080p monitor. The 1080p monitor while being smaller has greater detail and requires your gpu to work harder. If I were you I would seriously consider better resolution and a better graphics card.

Is the TV your currently using 1080p? If so, switching to a 1080p monitor would not change your framerate. If you're using a 720p TV now and decide to switch to a 1080p monitor, your framerate will be lower, regardless of size. As was already stated, size means absolutely nothing in terms of frame rate/hardware requirements. Switching to the monitor would be an upgrade, not a downgrade.

A benefit you'll likely gain from using a monitor instead of a generic TV is lower input lag -- which simply means the amount of time it takes for your monitor to respond to commands. (don't confuse this with response time, which is how long it takes for the pixels to change once your monitor receives the command to change them)

Nope, it's all about how many pixels it has to render at once. The bigger TV just means bigger pixels. The GPU doesn't care.
