Smart bulbs with no hub required

Yes that's okay but how does this hub system work. I never heard of hubs. I googled hubs but on the back of my wireless router there are 4 ethernet connections. Does this mean that my router is both a router and a hub? A simple connection idea for these things would help. Why would I need a hub? I don't understand but have a good grasp of computers systems. Routers, protocols and packets are a foreign language to me.

Some smart devices require a hub, which is a device that connects via wifi to your router, and then handles traffic to all the smart devices via its own methods.
The TPlink device you listed does not require a hub, each device connects to the wifi directly, independent of anything else.

I like TPlinks smart products.
