I have a 49 inch 8500 LG smart tv now for about 5 years. I never abused it during that period , just a couple of hours at night at the most. A big attraction for me at the time of purchase it came with the ability to show 3D movies. In fact , when bought it came with a video tape of Frozen in 3D. Last night i was all set to watch some TV and it would just not power on. The power light was there but the remote had no ability to turn it on. At first i thought of remote batteries were dead so i replaced those, no visible screen. I unplugged the cable and waited about a minute, replugged and still no screen view...just a black screen and no sound. I checked youtube which has some demo videos related to this problem and it shows ways to get it back again, but its eally complicated and everything seems to have to work perfectly. It also said that this is not only a LG problem. bit Samsung too. It seems to me that the makers had programed the motherboard of these tvs to work for about 5 years and then jus act dead so one can go out and buy another smart TV...guthen i recall about 2 or 3 years after i bought it , their remote went dead on me too and they LG wanted $80 dollars to replace their remote. I did not buy it and found an One For ALL remote made excuively for LG smart tv's. So viewing some of those youtube demos, they tal about a remote and i am assuming they are referring to the remote that came with the set and not a replacement like mine. Has anyone here have a similar problem with their smart TV's?

One reason no matter what screen you use, get a firestick or roku device or similar device, stream from that, and never connect the TV to the internet. We have a cheaper 65 inch tcl TV we bought in 2020 and use all the time and have always used it with a dedicated Roku or fire stick and don’t do the streaming through the TVs built in hardware. In fact the TV itself isn’t connected to the internet. Still going strong so far.
