The device is HP Pavilion g6-2289sx.
The notebook was totally dead when it camed in my repair shop.
I opened it and found this.
Problem (short circuited smd) with a Transient Voltage Suppressor Part No: P4SMAJ5.0A in the very start of the DC power feeding area to the motherboard.
So i removed it the laptop turned on fine and worked nicely but don't know if i should use it with out replacing the shorted smd device.
The question is.
should i find an equivalent to P4SMAJ5.0A and replace the faulted smd device.
or
should i have to continue with out the device. (since it works like a charm with out it)
i know its risky because without the TVS device the related circuitry will be vulnerable to voltage spikes.
what should i do. i don't have the mentioned P4SMAJ5.0A smd device and i don't have an equivalent to it as well.
need guidance
Thank you.
