I got a blue led strip from nzxt that uses a moxel connect to power the leds.

when i got the strip i tested it outside of my pc using the power supply to see if all the leds worked before putting it into my pc. shortly after starting my system the cable began to short and i turned off my pc. For some reason ("i think it was a bios setting") my pc turned on before i could unplug the cable and it started smoking again. At this point i unplugged it from my power strip and unplugging everything else from the moxel strip (just a fan controller). when my computer booted everything seemed fine. I have not put back anything on that moxel nor did i replug back in my fan controller. I was wondering if there was any testing i can do with the power supply or if i should just ditch it.

do you have a voltmeter/multimeter?
the power pins on an atx power supply are well documented, http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/other/22
you can test the voltage as a precaution. you will have to manually turn on the power supply with a paper clip or similar, short pins 14 and 15 and the power supply will turn on, while it is on you can test the voltages on the 24-pin and the molex plugs.
this will at least tell you if the voltages are outta whack.

I'll let my one roommate do this for me, hes a electrical engineer. Also wouldn't my pc not turn on if the voltages were wrong. (not trying to say your wrong but i wanted to know for future reference.)
