I just read another newspaper that talks about "french railroad firm responsibility in holocaust".

Some people says SNCF should be banned for bidding contracts in US.
Some other only want to sue SNCF and... get "reparations" (of course)

Your thoughts ?

I think this pretty much sums it up.

SNCF does not deny it played a role in transporting Jews to their deaths, but the company says it had no choice.

"Yes, we were involved. No, we will never forget," said Alain Leray, president of SNCF America, as he testified on Monday.

Leray, who noted that his own parents had fled occupied France to Algeria to avoid the Holocaust, said the genocide was also "a part of my family heritage."

But he denounced what he called a "misrepresentation of established historical facts."

"SNCF didn't deport anyone; the Nazis did," he insisted, saying the company "was forced to be a cog in the extermination Nazi machine."

By his side, Holocaust survivor Emil Levy, 92, testified on SNCF's behalf, saying he doesn't "believe in revenge" and that monetary compensation now would "do nothing for survivors."

I am sick of tired of the Holocaust being mentioned now to many times. LET IT Rest In Peace with the 6 million Jews who perished.

Hmmm I think many Israeli's would agree but you also have these extreme right wing "holocaust Deniers" out there who are stirring things up.

They should be tarred and feathered.

The French Rail company has repeatedly apologised ... which is admirable.

I don't think the world should forget such atrocities ... it should serve as a grim reminder that we must not let this happen again.

.

As they say, gone but not forgotten...

Agreed, let the past remain in the past.

Wow.. i agree with Chunky ! ... i feel funny. =)

To me these repair applications are an insult to the memory of French railwaymen who died executed or deported for having sabotaged trains and permit the release of many Jews.

Moreover, even if the SNCF had the responsibility for the operation of railways under occupation, it nonetheless remained under the direction of the Wehrmacht.
With no less than 6000 German railwaymen, in addition to military present on the Réseau Ferré de France.

Why blame the French company (and by extension, France) if it is not for profit or economically strategic (thinking about contracts between SNCF and some U.S. states)?

Just curious what does the SNCF stand for? Thanks

Actually, no one cares, here.
The Company has made available to the public all archives of the time.

There is no debate in France.

Regarding complaints in the United States, the president of the company made a public apology.
In general view, he did so under diplomatic and economic coercion.

We think it is just manipulation of historical facts to rule out the company from U.S. public markets. It would not be a first.
And it's insulting.
And outrageous.
And monstrously stupid....

(... it comes from 'murica.)
