I think its better to wait till 3xx launch and see what its made of. Cz rumors are, 3xx is the most power efficient cards made by AMD, with HMB, which can outrun anything.
How would a 980 or a 3 series from AMD perform with my i5 4670k (not overclocked)? Will it be okay? If I can, I would like to play on high settings on most games with are new.
Yes, you are having a fairly good CPU. If you check in the following link "http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4256307" you can see that they are bench marking 980 with the same CPU.
So i think you are good to go..
Okay that is cool to hear. I got some time I suppose. If I was to get a 980 (supposing that the 3 seires isnt great) which card do I get? Strix? Msi? Gigabyte?
Ideally, a card which is quiet, has good cooling and performs well.

As per AMD, and other sources HBM is 9x faster that that DDR5 memory. So, i say, if you have the juice now wait.
And in the case of 980, I personally prefer STRIX, cz the cooling is much better than any other. Bt again its just a personal opinion. Also is is compact in Design.
From the recent news, only the AMD Fury will actually use HBM. The 3xx series are going to be "technically" rebrands of the 2xx models; however, while they'll still be using GDDR5 VRAM, they'll have slightly tweaked clocks & a lot more VRAM (IIR, the 3xx equivalent of the R9 290 will have 8GB of VRAM).
Still will probably be good deals, but just wait a week until they're released.
