....So does this mean that I should reconsider?

Solution
This morning I read several articles about the firmware update.

The new firmware is supposed to fix a handful of stability issues with certain SadForce-based solid state drives (SSDs). Affected SSDs include the Vertex 3 series, Vertex 3 Max IOPS series, Agility 3 series, and Solid 3 series."

However, SadForce is making the firmware update available to all companies that use SadForce 2XXX controllers. It is not limited to OCZ.

Iit is for a specific firmware bug that causes a specific bsod. Not all users experience the exact same firmware bug. Some may be different.

Firmware version 2.15 seems very promising so far.

Here’s a link to a thread on OCZ’s website which has comments from users who have updated to the new version. Start from post #1 to see how many users have had their issues resolved, and how many have not.

The Crucial M4 is a good alternative so consider that if you change your mind regarding OCZ.
