Hi all!

I've posted a lot lately in this section! And if you've seen my other posts, I've been debating on which GPU to get for a new upgrade. Just for a little background; I currently game at 1080p 60Hz. My current GPU is an ASUS Strix GTX 760 2GB.

Annnd I have *finally* put some serious money down on a GPU. Now, I am the type of gamer that loves to run their games at ultra settings looking absolutely beautiful. And I have some questions about my GPU. I am fully confident in its purchase, however, I have some general questions that I would love some answers on! Before, however, I will tell you what GPU that I have upgraded too!

* * * MSI GAMING GTX 980Ti 6GB * * *

1: I have heard many people say that this GPU is overkill for 1080p. What exactly does 'overkill' mean in relation to GPU's and is this true?

2: I've heard that this card runs VERY HOT. Reports from un-overclocked card states they run at 80 degrees in games like Crysis 3. Are these temps safe? they seem very high, does this leave much room for overclocking?

3: How long can I expect to achieve 60fps ultra at 1080 for? when will I next need an upgrade?

4: If I wanted to upgrade to a 144HZ moniter or a 1440p display, would this card suffice or would I need two in SLI?

Thank you for all your time! Much appreciated

Solution
1) You have much more performance than you do demand for it. Essentially you could get the same visual results with a cheaper card.
2) While some users say they run hot, it is a maxwell card, and the MSI TF5 cooler is very solid. Anything under 80C is safe, and you can always crank up the fan speed.
3) A fairly impossible question to answer, my best guess is 2+ years.
4) That would depend on the game, and what settings you play at. At ultra settings at 1440p the card is fairly capable of 60Hz reliably in almost all games. 144Hz you would need two cards to benefit.
