Had a perfectly good working HD7970, upgraded to a new pc, put said graphics card into new pc and now I cannot get a signal from the card.
Now I'm usually fairly careful to avoid static etc but this to me seems the only logical explanation.

I have another graphics card in the new pc and it's working fine.

Also I cannot test my old card in the old pc as I sold off some key components.

Are my suspicions right? Please help because I love that card 🙁

Old pc:

AMD x4 965
Asus Crosshair V Formula
Corsair Vengeance 8gb ddr3 1600mhz
OCZ 750W Fully Modular PSU
HD 7970

New PC:
Intel I7 5960X
Asus x99 Deluxe
Crucial Ballistix 32gb ddr4
Corsair RM1000W Fully Modular PSU
R9 280

You never said what the old graphics card was in relation to the 7970 card.
If the other card works, and does not require any extra power to the graphics card it`s self via the Psu and the 12v eight and six pin plugs.

It is likely that if you had them connected to the 7970 card and it did not post the system or you got no display image from the output graphics port of the 7970 card.

You have not plugged into the motherboard from the PSU the extra four or eight pin extra 12v power required to provide extra power to the cpu and the Pci-e slot of the actual motherboard.

Look around or near your cpu for the eight or four pin power connector.
If it was not plugged in then it should work ok when you do plug it in with your 7970 card fitted in the First Pci-e slot of the board.
When you say key components, would it happen to be the power adapters you get with a 7970 card Pci-e to molex ect.

The old card is the HD7970, the new card is the R9 280. I was simply putting the old card into the new PC because it is a higher spec card.

The PC I bought came with the R9 280. I have also tried uninstalling the drivers then changing in the 7970 but still to no avail. To be honest I'm fairly certain they use the same drivers anyway but it shouldn't make a difference since it didnt produce a signal when there were no drivers installed.

I have built my own PC for many years so don't worry I'm fully aware of the different pin connectors. The 7970 requires one 8 pin and one 6 pin whereas the 280 requires two 6 pin connections.
Both 6 pin connections have the additional 2 pin on them and again still wont work when I swap around.
