So I want my monitor to display image only a part of the screen

I have a 1080p monitor, when I play games at 1080p, everything is fine. But when I want to run stuff at 720p and the image is stretched or full screen, the images aren't quite sharp enough.
The monitor is too big for the resolution and the image looks bad.

So what I want to do is make my 23" monitor display only a part of it, say like about 18" or around that so the images are sharper, the surrounding could be black and not functioning if required.

I have some recollection of achieving this with the Nvidia control panel at an earlier time. But I just can't seem to do it now for some reason.

My GPU: Nvidia GTX 960 OC

Anyways, I would be glad if someone were to tell me if this could be achieved and how or what I remember is just something else.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried this, it works like a charm. But I just wanted to know if what I asked was possible and how to go about it because some games do not offer a borderless windowed, I don't want to force that with a third party software.

Have you tried turning off GPU Scaling in the Nvidia Control Panel?

I am not aware of any methods to do that, but maybe someone else is. I know what you mean, making it smaller for a sharper image, but I can't find any sources on how to scale it further than turning off gpu scaling 🙁

Thanks for your efforts, I'll wait to see if someone else knows how to do it.
