So... if I really wanted to run "Crossife" I'd hav

1. Get two Crossfire capable cards?
2. Get one CCC and any PCI ATI card and chain em together?
3. Get two CCC's but they can be of different speeds?

I'm confused. Any light you folks might be able to shed would be helpful. I assume CCC cards are more expensive?

1. One regular X800 XT or X1800 XT, XL or X1900 XT, or XTX card (they are all "crossfire capable")

2. One crossfire edition card of the same architecture (i.e. if you had one X1800 XT or X1800 XL, you'd need an X1800 Crossfire edition card. Clockspeeds don't matter, they will all match the card with the lowest common denominator speeds.)

3. A crossfire motherboard

ON a side note, they say you can put two regular X1300's or X1600's in Xfire mode without using crossfire edition cards.

Here's a list of CrossFire capable families:
X850
X1300
X1600
X1800
X1900
CrossFire Requires a crossfire edition card and a card from the same family. A X1900 CrossFire Edition will only work with a X1900XT or X1900XTX.

...Unless they changed the drivers while I was busy falling behind the times. Namibia rocks!

I'm not planning on buying just ramping up my for my next cycle of upgrades, I usually start my "research" about 16 months before pulling any triggers. But my last build (see sig) should still be good for another year at least. I'd upgrade more incrementally but having an AGP board really puts me behind the 8 ball upgrade wise.

From the ATI website:
7. What happens when your CrossFire Edition card and and a compatible standard Radeon (CrossFire Ready) graphics card have different clock speeds?

A. Both cards will continue to operate at their individual clock speeds.

So it seems they do not scale themselves down to match speeds.

Also remember the x1300 and x1600 do not need a master card just 2 normal ones will work. Why you would want to crossfire these I do not know.
Also wonder why its only those cards that do not need a master card, any one know?
